Mental arithmetic and robotics
The lesson has two halves: first the soroban abacus, then robotics, algorithms and the beginnings of programming. Within one lesson concentration alternates with activity, which is what holds a six-year-old.
What it develops
The soroban supports the two hemispheres working together, speed of calculation and attention. The robotics half adds algorithmic thinking: in what order to give instructions so the machine does what you want.
